What is Hyperbaric Therapy?
Hyperbaric therapy, or hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT), is a medical treatment that involves breathing pure oxygen in a pressurized chamber or room. This therapy is used to treat various medical conditions by increasing the amount of oxygen your blood can carry, which can promote healing and provide other therapeutic benefits.
During a hyperbaric oxygen therapy session, you are placed in a chamber where the air pressure is higher than normal atmospheric pressure. You will breathe in 100% oxygen, as opposed to the approximately 21% oxygen found in the air we normally breathe. The increased pressure and high oxygen concentration can help improve the delivery of oxygen to your body's tissues, which can accelerate the healing process.
HBOT is used to treat a range of conditions, including decompression sickness (commonly known as "the bends"), carbon monoxide poisoning, non-healing wounds (such as diabetic ulcers), radiation injuries, certain infections, and more. It's also used in some cases to enhance the healing process after surgery or injury.
The number of sessions required can vary depending on the condition being treated. We administer this therapy in a controlled setting. It's important to note that hyperbaric therapy should only be administered by trained healthcare professionals.
